- The easiest way to cancel Netflix is at netflix.com — it works from any device, including smart TVs.
- If you subscribed through Apple or Google Play, you must cancel through them — the Netflix website won't work for your billing.
- You keep access until the end of your current billing period. Netflix does not offer prorated refunds.
- Netflix retains your watch history and preferences for 10 months, so rejoining picks up right where you left off.
Cancel via netflix.com (Works on Any Device)
This is the simplest method and works regardless of what device you're using. Even if you normally watch on a smart TV or phone, you can cancel through the Netflix website in a browser.
- Go to netflix.com and sign in to your account.
- Click your profile icon in the top right corner.
- Click Account from the dropdown menu.
- Scroll down to the Membership section.
- Click Cancel Membership.
- Click Finish Cancellation to confirm.
That's it. Your subscription is now cancelled. You'll see a confirmation screen showing the date your access ends — that's when your current billing period runs out.
Cancel if You Subscribed Through Apple
If Netflix charges appear from Apple (or you signed up through the Netflix app on iPhone), your subscription is managed by Apple — not Netflix. The Netflix app on iOS deliberately does not have a cancel button. You need to go through your Apple account settings.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Tap your name at the very top (your Apple ID).
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Find Netflix in the list and tap it.
- Tap Cancel Subscription.
- Confirm when prompted.
Your Netflix access continues until the end of the billing period Apple has on record for you.
Cancel if You Subscribed Through Google Play
If you signed up for Netflix through the Android app, Google Play manages your billing. Here's how to cancel.
- Open the Google Play Store app on your Android phone.
- Tap your profile photo in the top right corner.
- Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Find Netflix in the list and tap it.
- Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.
What Happens After You Cancel
Netflix cancellation is not immediate — here's what to expect.
Access until billing period ends. You keep full Netflix access — all your profiles, recommendations, and downloads — until the last day of your current billing period. Netflix does not cut access the moment you cancel, and it does not offer prorated refunds for unused days.
No data deleted for 10 months. After your access ends, Netflix holds onto your account data — watch history, ratings, profiles, and viewing preferences — for 10 months. If you resubscribe within that window, everything is exactly as you left it.
After 10 months. If you don't resubscribe within 10 months, Netflix may delete your account data permanently. You'd start fresh if you rejoined after that point.
Pausing Netflix Instead of Cancelling
If you're going on holiday, travelling, or just want a break for a month or two, Netflix offers a pause option that's less drastic than cancelling.
- You can pause for 1, 2, or 3 months.
- Billing stops during the pause period.
- Your account, profiles, and preferences are fully preserved.
- Netflix automatically reactivates your subscription when the pause period ends.
- To pause: go to Account → scroll to Membership → look for "Pause membership".
The pause feature is available to most subscribers, but if you don't see it in your account, your plan type or region may not support it.
How to Rejoin Netflix Later
Rejoining is easy. Go to netflix.com, click "Restart Membership" (if within 10 months), and you'll be prompted to confirm your payment method. Your profiles, watch history, and preferences will be exactly as you left them.
If it's been more than 10 months since you cancelled, you may need to set up your account from scratch. Your email and password will still work, but viewing history may be gone.
Track what you kept — and get alerted before the next renewal
SubPlus tracks every subscription you pay for, alerts you before renewals on your schedule, and shows exactly where your money goes — no bank access needed.
